others. he's still at large and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >

. and that, of course, is the big story we're following and continue to follow right here on cnn. we want to bring in the mayor right now of hamden, connecticut. he joins us on the phone. mayor, i understand you have something like 34 inches of snow on the ground there. how are you doing? >> well, it's a disaster. we have 240 miles of road, about 61,000 residents and at some point the plows become ineffective. you actually have to move the snow. we're moving snow with loaders now as opposed to doing the strict plowing that we usually do. >> and aside from that, of course, i know that the roads are closed. people, hopefully, are staying off the roads. right? >> absolutely. you're not going to be able to get anywhere. the roads are impassable. the governor of connecticut, n daniel malloy has closed the roads. >> that sounds like a job that's going to take more than, say, the weekend. >> we'll know a little bit better probably toward midday today what our proposed timelines are. fortunately, we're having good weather now. fortunately, this did not turn into a power disaster like our last s

candy crowley, the anchor of cnn's "state of the union." so what do you think will be the themes, the messages the president will have and keeping in mind that he faces a divided government for the next two years. >> reporter: that part of it, the divided government won't have a play here. this is the president's agenda, what he wants to go. you will hear echoes of the inaugural speech, because you will see things like immigration, climate change, maybe a little meat on those bones, like what about climate change. maybe a little bit about immigration, though his plan is out there. our white house correspondents have done a lot of reporting on this, including jessica yellin who says you will hear a lot about the economy. the white house was not all that thrilled when the focal point of the inaugural speech was immigration and gay marriage, same-sex marriage, that kind of thing. so this will be focused more we're led to believe on the economy. in particular what the white house likes to call investments and what republicans call spending. >> we know that florida senator marko rubio
